English comedian Ricky Gervais started out in the entertainment business as a singer but quickly turned to stand-up comedy instead. His sense of humor is somewhat dark, making his comedy a sort of guilty pleasure for his audience members. Gervais is not afraid to joke about anything, no matter how controversial. He is an atheist, a proponent of animal rights, and a successful writer and he works all of these aspects of his personality into his comedy. Although he has starred in several of his own full-length comedy specials, Ricky is probably best known for creating the television shows like The Office, Extras, and An Idiot Abroad. Gervais uses his success to pay it forward, giving large sums of money and public awareness to a variety of causes.
